Viva España is an intermediate wine course that elaborates on the knowledge acquired during the basic wine course. In five weeks this journey will take you from North to South and from East to West right into the heart and soul of the Spanish wine culture. And you will see yourself: the country has so much more to offer than just the famous red wines from Rioja… So are you ready? Then ¡vamos!
Beautiful and versatile Spain… Known in the wine world as one of the largest wine countries in the world! Or at least as we look at the vineyard acreage. It’s home to hundreds of grape varieties. Therefor the diversity of Spanish wines is typical of an entire continent, each style and identity is represented. You can find many great values in Spanish wine—delicious (and affordable!) bottles for any night of the week.
Already familiar with the meaning of ‘Denominacion d’Origen’? Have an idea of what we can expect from a ‘Reserva’ wine? Then now it’s time to dive a little deeper into the DO world of Spain. Because the Spanish appellations reach every single district of the country; beautiful and tasty wines are laying just around the corner for us! This course will take you into the deep heart of Spain’s wine industry. Known and lesser-known wine regions will pass the tasting table so you will get an clear understanding and develop nothing but love for this land full of delights in all respects!
This course is aimed at the intermediate wine student who already has some basic knowledge about grape varieties and about how wine is made.

The course runs over 5 consecutive weeks (once a week). Every session starts with a theory part after which we continue with tasting and evaluating different wines and grapes from the specific regions. You will receive a certificate on successful completion of the course.
Session 1: The North West; Galicia and the Basque Country
Session 2: The Ebro Valley; Rioja, Navarra, Aragón
Session 3: Castilla-Léon; the Duero Valley
Session 4: Castilla-La Mancha, Levante, Catalunya
Session 5: Sherry & Cava, examinaton and blind tasting
The course fee is 179 euro per person.
This price includes:
– all wines (+/- 20 in total)
– each class a cheese/charcuterie platter and bread
– the Viva España theorie syllabus
– weekly tasting papers
– the final exam and a certificate
– 21% IVA
DURATION EN LOCATION
The course runs over five weekdays, one day a week, from 19.30 to 21.30hr. The tasting location is in the El Born neighborhood in the stylish co-working studio Apocapoc BCN. (Google Maps)
